I notice it takes less energy to make the transition in stronger externally applied fields. This doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the sign though…
I’m looking back at my NMR notes and see deltaE = g*B*mu_N
I also have written that the g factor is the relation between the spin vector and the magnetic moment vector, and that at lower energy levels, the spin vectors will be mostly aligned with the magnetic moment vector and g will be positive. But I’m thinking if the magnitude of g depends on how closely aligned they are, it would seem that g being smaller in larger B might mean that the hyperfine field is negative? and so g reflects less alignment?
