For α = 0, the orientation doesn’t matter, as the Quadrupole energy will be zero regardless of orientation.
For α < 0, the lowest energy orientation would be a 90° angle with respect to the z-axis, so lying in the xy-plane.
For α > 0, the lowest energy orientation is parallel to the z-axis at 0° or 180°, as mentioned in the video.
