First I want to remind myself that L,S can be thought of as ‘vectors’ in the ‘vector model of orbital angular momentum’ where L,S are depicted as cones around an axis of choice, by convention often the z-axis.

J=2 : L and S parallel and same direction

J= 0 : L and S parallel and opposite direction
