    Perturbation in other words is what multipole expansion is (i.e perturbation can be broken down into a number of multipole terms of different orders.) Now, trying to solve the perturbed term directly can be computationally hard. This can be made comparatively easier by breaking it down into terms that contribute towards this perturbation and maybe even approximating it up to a required number of terms.
