For different values of l/d (0.6, 0.2, 0.05) we have different ranges of possible energies (-1.22, -0.6), (-0.832, -0.795), (-0.808, -0.796) respectively. We see that with decreasing size of the nucleus/(distance between central charges in the core) ranges of possible energies shrink, for the extreme case in which l=0 we would have exactly the energy of the monopole term. The quadrupole term with decreasing size of the nucleus gives smaller and smaller contribution to the total energy.
