Synchrotron radiation has a wide energy spectrum. The hyperfine levels of an exposed nuclei will excite at the same time. These hyperfine levels then decay at slightly different rates, because of their different frequencies. The superposition of these frequencies result in quantum beats. By taking the Fourier transform of these quantum beats, it is possible to derive the energy values of the hyperfine levels.
